Viewing the Wilderness from the Air
When looking down from an airplane, the wilderness seems to stretch forever and appears impenetrable. The wilderness can make a person want to hop in their vehicle and catch all the jaw-dropping views. The roads in Canada are very well kept and there are typically no traffic jams. So, feel free to guide the wheel down the road and enjoy the beautiful views, paired with solitude. Some of the different things that can be experienced while driving are the following:
- Rocky Mountains
- Coastline of the Pacific Coast
- National Parks
- Habitats of the Grizzly Bears
- Beautiful Coniferous Forests
Beautiful Banff National Park
When flying to Calgary from Heathrow, a non-stop flight is offered with Air Canada. When landing in Calgary, grabbing a car direct from the airport only takes a few minutes, and then the Rockies are just waiting to be driven through.
During the 1880s, the transcontinental railroad was made to go through Canada and the little well-known town of Banff. When stopping in Banff, one will quickly see there are a few things the town is known for, such as:
- Skiing on the Mountains
- Natural Hot Springs
- Mountain Resorts
- Beautiful Hiking Trails
- Spray Lake
- Mount Buller
Tourists love getting up early and hopping the cable car for a ride up Sulphur Mountain. Get there before the sun rises and prepare to be mesmerized, as the sun rays lazily make the colors dance above the trees and top of the mountains. If given the opportunity, jump in a helicopter and experience the breathtaking views from the sky of Banff National Park. No wonder the eagles float across the sky as if they are in slow motion!
National Park of Jasper
When done visiting Banff, head off to Jasper. It is only a three-hour drive. Once there, stop off at the Promenade des Glaciers in the Rockies.
One of the natural water spots along the route is Peyto Lake, which is continuously being fed by the glaciers. The water here is such a beautiful color of turquoise! Many vehicles pull over at Bow Summit to take in the beautiful views. Instead of sitting in the vehicle, pop out and follow the path down to the lake and experience how peaceful it is.
If a hike is on the agenda, a perfect place is Columbia Icefield. Many people like to jump on the coach, but hiking is the true way to go. Pristine air will fill the lungs, while the ice on the ground will crunch underneath your feet.
While Jasper offers a landscape of soft surroundings, thanks to the meadows and quiet lakes, make sure to experience the rougher side, by jumping on the Jasper Skytram. It will take everyone up to 2,277 meters (7,470 feet) in height for even more unbelievable views. Right before the sun sets, end the day with a cruise on Lake Maligne. The perfect evening to end the perfect day!
While walking around, keep an eye out for:
- Grizzly Bears
- Caribou
- Huge Moose
- Bald Eagles
Kamloops
The South Thompson River has a civilization along the banks called Kamloops. Here, there are golf courses that are well-manicured, horse paddocks with white fences, and very pretty timbered houses.
There may not be a zoo, but there is the British Columbia Wildlife Park for everyone to visit. The species that can be seen here are the natural animals that reside in the area. Some of the 65 animals that can be seen are:
- Bobcats
- Coyotes
- Arctic Wolves
- Three Breeds of Bears
- Bearded Dragons
- Owls
- Birds of Prey
- Red-Footed Tortoises
Gulf of Vancouver
Vancouver is known as the capital of British Columbia. This lovely city can be found resting between the mountains and the never-ending ocean. A walk along the English Bay is very peaceful and a great place to enjoy a relaxing cup of tea.
When coming to explore the city after taking in the wilderness, it may take a little bit of time to adjust to the hustle and bustle. With the ocean so close though, it is worth the time to find a seat and just let your thoughts go, while being mesmerized by the water. There is nothing better than ending a mind-blowing trip by relaxing on the coast, taking in the views, and feeling the sand between your toes, as you walk along the beach. What an amazing feeling!
